Invitation to the 2005 International

Warsaw(EPBC)-Szymany(EPSY)-Kętrzyn(EPKE) Air Rally

The National Aviation Association (KTL) AOPA Poland would like to cordially invite our fellow pilots, members of AOPA International, to the 2005 International Warsaw-Kętrzyn Air Rally which will take place on May 27th to 29th, 2005.

To be held for the fourth time, this aviation and social event will be sure to see not only a large turnout from our fellow pilots in Poland but from pilots from abroad as well. The organizers of the 2005 International Warsaw-Kętrzyn Air Rally have included an exciting number of events during the last weekend of May 2005.

2005 International Warsaw-Ketrzyn Air Rally Schedule

25.05.2005 - Wednesday

  • The arrival of the first aircrews to the Warsaw Babice Airport (EBBC).

  • Passport control for foreign aircrews (coming directly from abroad only) and hotel arrangements.

26.05.2005 - Thursday (Corpus Christi Holiday)

  • Tour of Warsaw - activities in small groups.

27.05.2005 - Friday

  • Individual flights to Szczytno Szymany Airport (EPSY).

  • Evening - social event at the Krystyna Hotel in Szczytno which is managed by a fellow pilot.

  • Hotel arrangements.

28.05.2004 - Saturday

  • Navigation Competition of the Kętrzyn Air Rally from Szczytno Szymany Airport to Kętryzn Wilamowo Airport (EPKE) - details attached.

  • The 4th European Aviation Fair at Kętryzn Wilamowo Airport, a show-oriented event that features exhibitions and workshops for pilots, aircraft manufacturers, fans of modelling and aviation enthusiasts.

  • Evening - social event at the Aviator’s Tavern at the Kętryzn Wilamowo Airport, which will include a bonfire, great food, an awards ceremony to summarise the Navigation Competition and MKWŻOL1.

  • Hotel arrangements.

29.05.2004 - Sunday

  • Individual tour flights over the Mazurian Lakes District.

  • Tour of surrounding lakes and villages - activities in small groups.

  • The 4th European Aviation Fair at Kętrzyn Wilamowo Airport.

  • Departure of crews, (passport control available to foreign crews).

Registration and Fees

All crews taking part in the 2005 InternationalWarsaw-Kętrzyn Air Rally are kindly requested to fill out and send back the attached registration form by April 30th, 2005.

The registration fee for the 2005 InternationalWarsaw-Kętrzyn Air Rally is PLN 300 per aircraft (60 EURO). Payments can be made by bank wire or cash upon arrival to Warszawa Babice Airport. Payments received by April 30th are subject to a 20% discount.

The registration fee amount covers all airport operations and handling fees at Szczytno Szymany Airport (EPSY) and Ketryzn Wilamowo Airport (EPKE), including parking space at a pre-designated grass aprons. Aircrews should remember to bring their own tie-downs to secure their aircraft.

Airport operations and handling fees (about 10 Euros) at Warszawa Babice Airport (EPBC) are not included in the price of the registration fee.

AVGAS 100LL is available at Warszawa Babice Airport, Szczytno Szymany Airport and Ketryzn Wilamowo Airport. Payment can be made by cash or any major credit card.

VFR Charts

A set of Poland VFR 1:500 000 charts can be purchased ahead of time from the organisers. The set includes six charts which are in accordance with ICAO standards and include topographical information together with all airfield, obstruction radio navigation beacons and the airspace structure for FIR Warszawa. A VFR bulletin is included with each set which highlights in Polish and English the most important VFR airspace regulations in effect from March 18, 2004. The price of each set is PLN 150 or 30 Euro plus shipping costs.

Warsaw-Kętrzyn Air Rally 2005

Navigation Competition - May 28th, 2005

The navigation competition requires each aircrew to locate 18 objects presented on photographs as well as 12 signs and/or letters that will be located along the planned flight route from Szczytno Szymany Airport to Kętrzyn Wilamowo Airport. Checkpoints at known and undisclosed locations will control elapsed flight times. Aircrafts will potentially be outfitted with a flight logger (to be confirmed) supplied by Andrzej Osowski, the Head Coach of the Polish National Pilot Representation, who we will have the honour to guest at our competition.

Schedule for Saturday May 28th:

10.00 - Flight briefing for all aircrews at the Szczytno Szymany Airport Tower for the navigation competition in Polish and in English. The briefing will include the distribution of charts, a description of the planned flight route, photographs, competition and right of way rules.

11.00 - Individual preparation of aircraft and aircrews.

12.00 - Departure of first aircrew from Szczytno Szymany Airport.

12.05 - Departure of next aircrew from Szczytno Szymany Airport.

Successive departing aircrews will be spaced apart by five minute intervals.

Note: all times are listed as local times.

Each aircrew will be required to fly the 240km planned flight route to Kętrzyn Wilamowo Airport at 1300ft AMSL (300m AGL). The 1:500 000 charts provided to the aircrews by the organisers will have the planned flight route marked along with all waypoints along the way. Please make sure to include the True Airspeed (TAS) of your aircraft in the registration form as this will enable us to make the necessary calculations for the competition and to set the succession of the aircraft for departure. This information is also required from Flight Information Service to ensure the safety of all aircraft flying in the region.
